The Rumpelstiltskin Challenge Week 2

This challenge is motivating me to get things done!  Last week I finished a pair of socks.

I also finished off two pairs of pants that have been sitting around half done for weeks.  I made three fleece blankets to give as Christmas gifts.  I'm quite excited to have three Christmas gifts done in January! I also made a blanket from some bicycle flannel backed with some quilting cotton.   I love quick and easy projects!

The Rumpelstiltskin Challenge First Report

I'm a bit late to the party.  This is my first week participating in the Rumpelstiltskin Challenge.  I've definitely started off with some easy projects.

My first project was to turn a pile of t-shirts that were waiting re-purposing into a pile of diaper wipes.  I made them a few different sizes so that the mom who requested them can choose which size she likes best.

My second project was to sew up some linen bread bags.  Maybe this will encourage me to make bread more often!

The Rumpelstiltskin Challenge

Have you read about the The Rumpelstiltskin Challenge?  I think it sounds like a brilliant idea!   For five years I lived in a town without a fabric store.  As a result, anytime I saw a chance to acquire fabric I took it.  For the last year, I've lived in a town with easy access to fabric.  It has been hard for me to get out of the habit of buying fabric or other supplies just because I can.  My supplies are threatening to take over my workspace.  I still have the idea that new supplies will fuel my creativity.  It seems that just the opposite is really true.  Using what I have, making space, and challenging myself to shop my stash will fuel my creativity.  I can't really imagine that I can make it an entire year without buying craft supplies.  I'm sure that I will run out of things like thread and interfacing that will allow me to make use of the supplies that I do have.  I can commit to not buying for my stash for the year and making efforts to use as much of it as possible.  This week I will start by clearing out and organizing.

Advent Run Down

I'm already thinking about filling my Advent calendar for next year.  I figure this is a pretty good time of year to be on the look out for bargains for purchased gifts.   I plan to fill my nephew's calendar with a mix of store bought and homemade treats again next year.   I'll plan to make at least one item each month so that I'm not rushing to finish things at the last minute.  Here's a run down of things I've included  in the past.

fabric nativity scene - one or two pieces given over a stretch of days
Christmas board book - a simple telling of the Christmas story
socks -both red and festive designs
jingle bells (not meant for unsupervised play)
purchased non-breakable ornaments
gift tags

Lined Pants
Fabric Book
Christmas PJs
Felted Star Santa
Knit mini stocking - I like to use yarn leftover from other projects to make Christmas ornaments
paper origami crane

Crane made from fabric fused to interfacing

felt ball ornament

Christmas Tie Onesie
Knit Christmas Hats

Christmas Tree onesie
